The DeKalb County Animal Shelter is out of housing space. We’re asking our community for help with stray pets so we can focus on emergency and critical situations. Animals in need will not and should not be abandoned. If you have found a healthy pet, please fill out a Found Pet Report.
If you need other assistance, please email pethelp@dekalbanimalservices.com.
Response time is delayed due to incredibly high volumes of animals and people in need of assistance.

Residents in the area of Luxuria Court in Tucker should be aware that a RACCOON exposed to a family pet was captured on March 12, 2024. Test results later revealed the raccoon to be POSITIVE for RABIES.

Pets thrive in homes! When you open your heart and home to a shelter pet for any amount of time, you’ll help keep them happy and healthy. You’ll also free up limited shelter space for other pets who enter our shelters.

There is nothing like the love and warmth of a family. Fostering enables pets to thrive in a home where they are less stressed and better socialized. Additionally, animals in homes are less likely to get sick than pets in shelters. LifeLine provides vet care, supplies, support and adoption assistance. We have a wide variety of needs and animals to fit any family’s lifestyle. Share your home with a shelter pet and help save lives!

foster a cat

Check out a few of our cat fostering opportunities below.

Bottle Babies
Bottle babies must be fed formula every two to four hours, stimulated to go to the bathroom, kept on a heat source, weighed before each feeding, and closely monitored for illnesses.

When a pregnant cat or a new mom and her litter come into our care, placing them into foster care is critical to ensure that the babies stay healthy and learn proper socialization skills.

Special Needs
Some kittens and cats need additional socialization or may have a specific medical concern best cared for in a foster home.

Weaned Kittens
When kittens are old enough to eat on their own but too young to be spayed or neutered, they benefit from living in a foster home where they continue to grow and play until they are ready for adoption.
